The Hair Garage
Barber’s cutting edge business idea
A Redcar barber’s new business idea offering the right service and the right location has proved to be exactly the right choice for local people.
Richard Fielding opened his Dormanstown barbers, The Hair Garage, to give local people a much needed service and is already reaping the benefits with business getting better every day.
Richard got in touch with Redcar and Cleveland’s Enterprise Team when he spotted a gap in the local market for men’s and children’s hairdressing.
The Enterprise Team gave advice and guidance on setting up the business and helped secure funding for advertising and signage.
Richard has themed the shop around classic cars and bikes and chose to site it in Dormanstown, saying: “There’s lot of development going on in Dormanstown with the Chemists, café, sandwich shop and the furniture shop opening, which is great for the local community and economy.
“I wanted to improve what’s on offer locally even further and realised that what local people didn’t have was a local barbers – reasonably priced, on the doorstep and with ample free parking.
“Feedback so far has been very positive with a lot of custom coming from word of mouth recommendations which is great. I’d encourage anyone who has a business idea or business they want to grow to get in touch with the Enterprise Team to see what help and assistance is available. They were really helpful to me, making me aware of a lot of rules and regulations which I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. ”
Richard intends to develop the business by training others who want to learn the profession of barbering. He also has his eyes firmly set on expansion too and hopes to open more salons in the future.
