Tourism

Our key objective is to open up East Cleveland to visitors in order to fully exploit the potential and under developed markets. One of the areas identified as having huge potential is activity tourism and in particular the walking, cycling and equestrian sectors.

We are currently developing a number of new routes and a branding style for the marketing of these routes. As a result, businesses will benefit from a growing number of visitors to the borough.

It is the policy of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s Tourism Section and the national tourism network to only promote those accommodation providers inspected by the National Accreditation Scheme. By offering quality rated accommodation visitors are aware of the standard of the establishment before they book, therefore there should be no cause for complaint as their stay should match their expectation. The enterprise team aim to support businesses in this process and are able to fund the first year of participation.

As people are become increasingly interested in greener holidays we are developing a number of initiatives to support sustainable tourism. We will be encouraging residents and visitors to eat local with our food guide. In the guide we will be promoting local food establishments, food producers, farmers markets and food festivals along with information on where to go for a picnic in the area and the benefits to the environment if you eat locally produced food.

Our ultimate aim is to improve the tourism product, promote the product and as a result bring more visitors to the borough.

If you would like to discuss your tourism business further or would like more information about the Food Guide please contact a member of the Enterprise Tourism team on 01642 496437 and ask for Debbie Allinson or Kendra Fletcher.
