Glenn Julian
On course for success…On course for success…
Biker Glenn Julian from Redcar fought back from a near-death accident and is now helping to prevent the same happening to fellow motorcyclists.
Glenn was just inches away from having his right leg amputated after colliding with a car but now, with help from Redcar and Cleveland’s Enterprise Team, is the proud owner of a business dedicated to road safety.
20 years after the accident and fully up to speed with all of the relevant knowledge and guidance from the Enterprise Team 38-year-old Glenn gave up his job with The Stockton Road Safety Partnership and launched Ridercraft at Redcar Racecourse.
Ridercraft aims to improve the skills of bikers of all age and ability, as well as promoting road safety across the region and Glenn’s 11,000sqm training facility at Redcar Racecourse is one of the largest areas in the North East for motorcycle training.
Glenn also works as a consultant for local authorities and the Highways Agency, advising them on motorcycle and road safety campaigns and appearing in DVDs to promote safe riding.
“I am very passionate about bikes. As soon as I could get back on a bike after the accident I got straight back on and vowed to turn that negative into a positive.
“I have been thinking about and working towards my ‘ridercraft’ dream from that day onwards really – now that I’ve taken the plunge and actually started the business I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner. I love bikes and now I love my job too – all day every day – and you don’t hear that very often do you?”
Ridercraft boasts a 100% pass rate for students taking the advanced skills training and Glenn also has a diploma with The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA.)
“If people have a hobby or pastime that they love and are enthusiastic about they really should get in touch with the Enterprise Team. That’s exactly what I did and I’ve never looked back. They gave me lots of advice and gave me a great insight into and understanding of real business basics which helped me enormously when starting out.
“I’m still in touch with them, often ask their advice and fully intend to take advantage of their knowledge and guidance with regards to my future expansion plans.”
