Phillip GooderhamPhillip’s got fashion off to a T at just 17
At the tender age of just 17, Phillip Gooderham is already making his mark on the fashion world with his own designer tee-shirts.
Phillip uses the design skills he learned at Redcar and Cleveland Community College to create his tee-shirts, which he sells online and also at events such as the upcoming Redcar Rocks festival on 13 and 14 July.
When considering setting up his own business, he turned to Redcar and Cleveland Enterprise Team for help.
“I started off by selling iPhone cases, but I had the idea for the teeshirts and thought that might be a good direction to go in,” said Phillip, who lives in Redcar.
“The Enterprise Team put me in touch with someone who helped me with my website, and they also talked me through some of the basics.”
The team helps people who want to open their own business to assess their ideas, learn business skills such as marketing and keeping accounts, and make useful contacts.
Phillip, who also works for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, called his company Friend of Horse Apparel.
He said: “I was looking for something different as a name, and I Googled my name – Friend of Horse is what Phillip means in Greek.
“Things are going really brilliantly and just starting to kick off. I’m working on new teeshirt designs every day, and they are starting to sell.
“I’m looking forward to Redcar Rocks –I wanted to do something local so people would get to know me – and in future I may well do some selling via market stalls and other events.”
